Q1. Is it possible to follow partially the school on-line?
No, the school concept is an in-person meeting with a clear focus at enabling direct networking of the participants, lecturers and organizers, as well as hands-on tutorials on DFT and simulations for X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS, XMCD, XMLD) and ARPES, spin-resolved ARPES. While there are a few lecturers that will do present in-remote mode, this is only a few cases and does not change the school concept.
A considerable number of excellent public talks on altermagnet materials and their physics is already available on-line at websites such as SPICE seminars, which are highly recommended if you are interested to learn more on the topic and could not assist this school.
Q2. What does the registration cover?
The choice of the school is to favor everyone participation and not a few granted students at the expense of registration costs. Therefore, if accepted, you can participate in any or both school sessions without a registration cost (free registration). Accommodation, travel, daily lunches and other costs are to be covered by the participants.
Q3. Are there any grants for students available?
No, at least not directly from the school. The choice of the school is to favor everyone participation and not a few granted students at the expense of registration costs. For this reason we have favored a cost free school registration for everyone, and covering the costs of the lecturers with our funding without requiring for that a registration fee.
Q4. Is this a school to learn in general synchrotron techniques, have practicals in synchrotron techniques?
No, the school does not include synchrotron practicals in their scope, and techniques will be only introduced in lectures. The hands-on will cover simulations for these techniques, with an emphasis on the case of altermagnetic materials.
Q5. Last day participants workshop. Are participants required to present or can they present on the last day workshop?
We encourage the participants to submit an abstract and aim to do a presentation on the research they are doing or preparing to do. We understand not everyone might be on the circumstances allowing to do such presentation, so this is not required, just an opportunity. We will try to enable as many participant presentations as possible, hopefully almost all requested. We are considering a 8min+ 2min questions format, but this and final schedule will be updated and communicated to the participants.
