Description
The upgrade of ALBA to a fourth-generation light source was approved in September 2025 and aims to ensure the competitiveness of the ALBA Synchrotron for the coming decades. The project includes the complete replacement of the storage ring, which will reduce the electron beam emittance from the current 4300 pm·rad to 200pm·rad. It also includes the upgrade of the existing beamlines to fully exploit the enhanced beam characteristics and the construction of new beamlines. Two of these new beamlines will be nanoprobe facilities, featuring source-to-sample distances exceeding 200m. This presentation will provide an overview of the current status of the various upgrade projects and their implementation schedule.
