Description

Approved in 2017, the ALBA Synchrotron's Data Policy has seen only minor updates to accommodate new instruments. Significant changes in the scientific computing landscape now require a complete revision. This revision focuses on three main areas: complying with updated European and national directives, meeting new scientific computing and data management needs, and securing long-term sustainability within the available financial and human resources. Addressing these priorities requires considering how IT technologies have evolved over the past decade, particularly the growing imbalance between data generation and the capabilities for processing, storage, and transfer. This talk will present the motivations, the main challenges, and principles guiding ALBA’s new Data Policy, which is expected to be approved by the end of 2026.
