Description

On 11th February 2019, Caterina Biscari, director of ALBA, and Paulo Ferrão, president of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), under the auspices of Pedro Duque, minister of Science, Innovation and Universities of the Spanish Government, Manuel Heitor, minister of Science Technology and Higher Education of Portugal, and Àngels Chacón, regional minister of Business and Knowledge of the Catalan Government and current chair of the ALBA Rector Council has signed an agreement to promote the scientific collaboration between Spain and Portugal.

FCT and ALBA Synchrotron are initiating a program in the area of multilength scale imaging, catalysis, energy storage, and materials for quantum information sciences, including funding one Portuguese postdoc researcher in each of these fields. The program will enable new Iberian collaborations in areas of national and European importance by developing specific pilot projects in the four areas, and ultimately will grow the Portuguese synchrotron user community by providing hands on expertise and training to the young scientist generation.

A one-day workshop (23th of March) is organized in Lisbon for the Portuguese and Spanish scientific community to start developing the pilot projects. After a short introduction of the workshop context and goals, the first part of the workshop will provide a platform for suggesting topics for pilot projects, with participation of one speaker from Portugal and one from Spain, plus an open session where participants have the opportunity to present two slides on their own proposals. In the second part, the participants will split in four different teams which will identify common interests, synergies, and opportunities resulting in the development of white papers. Finally, the white papers will be presented at the closeout and will be the basis for the input to a specific committee, which will later on select the projects.

Additional poster presentations will provide a broad platform for communication, exchange and integration.

Details of the registration and accommodation will be provided soon.
