Description
We will give a broad overview of recent progress in an experimental effort to understand and control collective quantum phenomena and excitations in metal oxides. Resonant x-ray scattering yields essential information about interactions between spin, charge, and orbital degrees of freedom at the atomic scale, and is hence a key tool in this effort. We will focus on recent advances in research on copper oxides and ruthenium oxides.
