DESCRIPTION:On 11th February 2019\, Caterina Biscari\, director of ALBA\, 
 and Paulo Ferrão\, president of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnol
 ogia (FCT)\, under the auspices of Pedro Duque\, minister of Science\, Inn
 ovation and Universities of the Spanish Government\, Manuel Heitor\, minis
 ter of Science Technology and Higher Education of Portugal\, and Àngels C
 hacón\, regional minister of Business and Knowledge of the Catalan Govern
 ment and current chair of the ALBA Rector Council has signed an agreement 
 to promote the scientific collaboration between Spain and Portugal.\n\nFCT
  and ALBA Synchrotron are initiating a program in the area of multilength 
 scale imaging\, catalysis\, energy storage\, and materials for quantum inf
 ormation sciences\, including funding one Portuguese postdoc researcher in
  each of these fields. The program will enable new Iberian collaborations 
 in areas of national and European importance by developing specific pilot 
 projects in the four areas\, and ultimately will grow the Portuguese synch
 rotron user community by providing hands on expertise and training to the 
 young scientist generation.\n\nA one-day workshop (23th of March) is organ
 ized in Lisbon for the Portuguese and Spanish scientific community to star
 t developing the pilot projects. After a short introduction of the worksho
 p context and goals\, the first part of the workshop will provide a platfo
 rm for suggesting topics for pilot projects\, with participation of one sp
 eaker from Portugal and one from Spain\, plus an open session where partic
 ipants have the opportunity to present two slides on their own proposals. 
 In the second part\, the participants will split in four different teams w
 hich will identify common interests\, synergies\, and opportunities result
 ing in the development of white papers. Finally\, the white papers will be
  presented at the closeout and will be the basis for the input to a specif
 ic committee\, which will later on select the projects.\n\nAdditional post
 er presentations will provide a broad platform for communication\, exchang
