Description
Abstract
The presentation will introduce the practical application of X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) in catalysis, with a specific focus on the ammonia decomposition reaction for hydrogen production. Covering the entire process, from sample preparation (pellets and capillaries) to the analysis of results, the use of ex situ and in situ/operando XAS will be explored. The practical aspects will be complemented by a brief introduction on the theoretical fundamentals of the technique, regarding both the transmission and fluorescence modes. Through the case study, the application of a catalyst composed of nickel and ruthenium supported on CeO2 for the decomposition of ammonia, the presentation will illustrate the use of the Demeter software package for result analysis, showing some of the information that can be extracted from XAS spectra. Furthermore, the integration of the information obtained through XAS with other characterization techniques, such as X-ray Diffraction (XRD), will be presented.
